As many of you know, the Omnibus Spending bill is being "fast-tracked" through Congress. Buried in the 1,600 page bill, (which allowed the public only hours to review), are many destructive "mini-bills". Among these are: the removal of the paltry Dodd-Frank regulations on Big Banks & Wall Street. Also: Federal Pension reductions, (presaging the coming moves to reduce Social Security). Also: FDIC insurance on exorbitant derivatives, which will bilk taxpayers and private bank accounts for many $trillions, once that market bubble crashes - not if - when. There is also a 10x increase in gift allowances for members of Congress. And, there is the global faux-treaty, the TPP, (Trans-Pacific {trade} Partnership), has been cloistered in this bill. All of this is a monumental outrage.

After downed airplanes, Russia, ISIS, Ebola, & race polarisation - there comes the release of the CIA Torture Report. I have been studying the latter, and it is clear to me that this issue was expertly planned to divert attention - into partisan blame-placing, while the Omnibus Spending Bill was being sneaked through, behind the smoke and mirrors. I HAVE to write more on this diversion soon. Please stay tuned.

If any of you can post now about either of these issues - the Spending Bill, (and/or the TPP), and the release of the provocative CIA Torture Report, I urge you to do so.

In the mean time, please follow this selective link to my journal, where I have written about some important issues, with you in mind. 1 - The immanent DERIVATIVES catastrophe. 2 - The suspicious deaths of between 36 and 55 bank CEOs and managers this year. 3 - The TPP - (contains a wealth of links).

Hopefully, some of you will get active and contact your Congress persons over this Spending Bill, at least!!!

What do Occupy and the Tea Party have in Common? More than you Might Think:
Six points of agreement between “Occupy” leftists and the “Tea Party” right - by Haystack | Disinformation | October 20, 2014

In an article entitled “The Six Principles of the New Populism (and the Establishment’s Nightmare)” Robert Reich outlines six points of agreement between “Occupy” leftists and the “Tea Party” right: [Follow the link to read the entire article.]

1. Cut the biggest Wall Street banks down to a size where they’re no longer too big to fail. Left populists have been advocating this since the Street’s bailout now they’re being joined by populists on the right.

2. Resurrect the Glass-Steagall Act, separating investment from commercial banking and thereby preventing companies from gambling with their depositors’ money. Elizabeth Warren has introduced such legislation, and John McCain co-sponsored it. Tea Partiers are strongly supportive, and critical of establishment Republicans for not getting behind it.

3. End corporate welfare – including subsidies to big oil, big agribusiness, big pharma, Wall Street, and the Ex-Im Bank. Populists on the left have long been urging this; right-wing populists are joining in.

4. Stop the National Security Agency from spying on Americans. Bernie Sanders and other populists on the left have led this charge but right-wing populists are close behind. House Republican Justin Amash’s amendment, that would have defunded NSA programs engaging in bulk-data collection, garnered 111 Democrats and 94 Republicans last year, highlighting the new populist divide in both parties.

5. Scale back American interventions overseas. Populists on the left have long been uncomfortable with American forays overseas. Rand Paul is leaning in the same direction. Paul also tends toward conspiratorial views about American interventionism.

6. Oppose trade agreements crafted by big corporations. Two decades ago Democrats and Republicans enacted the North American Free Trade Agreement. Since then populists in both parties have mounted increasing opposition to such agreements. The Trans-Pacific Partnership, drafted in secret by a handful of major corporations, is facing so strong a backlash from both Democrats and tea party Republicans that it’s nearly dead.

Occupy group abolishes nearly $4 million in student loan debt - http://rt.com/usa/188520-strike-debt-jubilee-everest/
(RT) - On the third anniversary of the Occupy Wall Street movement, an offshoot group announced that it has erased $3.8 million worth of private student loan debt.

The group, Strike Debt, said in a press release issued on Wednesday this week that its Rolling Jubilee initiative has purchased nearly $4 million in private student debt owed by former attendees of Everest College — an institution run by the massive for-profit education company Corinthian Colleges — in turn freeing those former students from a huge chunk of the burdensome loan bills.

“Jubilant Greetings!” the group wrote to 2,700 former Everest students. “We are writing to you with good news: We just got rid of some of your Everest College debt!” - (READ MORE - see link above).

Scientists Lead Huge Climate Change March in NYC

NEW YORK — Lab-coat-clad and picket-sign-wielding scientists were on the front lines of the People's Climate Change march yesterday (Sept. 21) along with hordes of students and others concerned about the planet's changing climate.

The march, organized to bring more public awareness to climate change effects and policies, was planned in anticipation of the UN Climate Summit that will meet at the United Nations headquarters in Manhattan tomorrow (Sept. 23). The march was divided into six different themed sections and scientists marched in the "The Debate Is Over" section. Many carried signs with slogans like "We are the 97 percent consensus," "Science is not a liberal conspiracy" and "Friends don't let friends deny reality." - Over 300,000 people - READ MORE

- (Notes: RFK Jr. was prominent in this march, and made national news. I had a dream about RFK Jr., the same morning, Sept.21, w/ no prior knowledge(!) - Also relevant to OCCUPY minds: There was a large march in Russia against involvement in Ukraine,(!), and there was, of course, the vote regarding Scottish independence).

Ed Schultz leaves the airwaves! - Probably another sign of the corporate attack on progressive radio. )

So, again, please try to keep the movement - and radio - and the LJ communities alive. Things seem bad now, but big changes are coming. Things will get worse before they get better. Please tell radio stations and corporations that you want progressive talk! Who knows why Ed Schultz left - but he remains online, and on msNBC. Whatever the reason he left, this is another symptom of progressive voices becoming silent. And, also, please open yourself up to ideas and voices from various directions! There is a LOT that true progressives share with many people on the, "far-right", such as MARCHing AGAINST MONSANTO, ( http://www.earthjustice.org ), anti-war, and so forth. A good book to check out regarding this topic is Ralph Nadir's latest, "UNSTOPPABLE!"

There remain a LOT of events and topics for us to post about - city, state, nation - WORLD. It's all the same FIGHT. As usual, I have been overwhelmed by illness and the rapidly unfolding, ghastly events of the day. I urge you all to do what you can to continue to confront injustice and unreason. But, by far, the most pressing issue tonight is this impending attack on Syria, with all the irrationality and hypocrisy whirling around it. It pertains to every person on the planet, and every community on LiveJournal. If you can post your thoughts, or links, or suggestions, etc., about this issue, perhaps in the context or bigger pictures - or perhaps just cursory links in passing - please do so, in most any of my communities, including [livejournal.com profile] madison_fights, [livejournal.com profile] indie_lifestyle, [livejournal.com profile] wiki_truth, [livejournal.com profile] liberal_plus, etc. And - if any of you can start any, "SIGNAL BOOSTS," going across LJ, that would be superb!

I have tried to help paint a picture of how our political world is spinning off course, seriously, at [livejournal.com profile] o_c_c_u_p_y. Please show solidarity by joining, posting there, commenting ANYWHERE, etc. This is a major crisis.

I have also tried to paint a broader philosophical picture over at my journal, which you are invited to view, via #tags, and via this link, especially tailored to [livejournal.com profile] o_c_c_u_p_y members. http://madman101.livejournal.com/tag/-posted%20to%20o_c_c_u_p_y .

I would post so much more, but life is hard. Thank you so much. Please contact your Representatives on Syria, privacy issues, militancy, wealth inequality, Kochs, and you all know the rest. Thank you for all of your separate activism and daily efforts. We don't have to see what you do to know that you want to do what you can. Take care. PS - Love this moment while it lasts, for life is short, and our planet is small.

FBI Knew of Plot to Execute Occupy Activists but Did Nothing... (via Democratic Underground)...

FBI Document—“(DELETED)” Plots To Kill Occupy Leaders “If Deemed Necessary”

By Dave Lindorff - June 27, 2013 WhoWhatWhy.org

Would you be shocked to learn that the FBI apparently knew that some organization, perhaps even a law enforcement agency or private security outfit, had contingency plans to assassinate peaceful protestors in a major American city — and did nothing to intervene?

Would you be surprised to learn that this intelligence comes not from a shadowy whistle-blower but from the FBI itself – specifically, from a document obtained from Houston FBI office last December, as part of a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed by the Washington, DC-based Partnership for Civil Justice Fund?

To repeat: this comes from the FBI itself. The question, then, is: What did the FBI do about it?

The Plot

Remember the Occupy Movement? The peaceful crowds that camped out in the center of a number of cities in the fall of 2011, calling for some recognition by local, state and federal authorities that our democratic system was out of whack, controlled by corporate interests, and in need of immediate repair?

That movement swept the US beginning in mid-September 2011. When, in early October, the movement came to Houston, Texas, law enforcement officials and the city’s banking and oil industry executives freaked out perhaps even more so than they did in some other cities. The push-back took the form of violent assaults by police on Occupy activists, federal and local surveillance of people seen as organizers, infiltration by police provocateurs—and, as crazy as it sounds, some kind of plot to assassinate the “leaders” of this non-violent and leaderless movement.

I'm not sure how many of you have iphones. I definitely don't. My phone is a dinosaur. However, I heard of this app called Buycott. You can scan a product and see what companies are connected to it. As an example, it would be able to tell you if Monsanto had anything to do with the making of said product. I think it's probably a handy tool, but I haven't used it.

German who helped start euro now calls for its end
BERLIN (AP) — The leftwing opposition politician who was Germany's finance minister when the euro was adopted says it's time to think about abandoning the common currency in the wake of the enormous economic problems in southern Europe.

Oskar Lafontaine says on his website that struggling eurozone countries have not been able to devalue their currencies to help them cope with the economic crisis that has seen several slip into recession.

Lafontaine proposes a restructuring of Europe's banking system, stricter controls on lenders, and a return to the European monetary system that preceded the euro.

Lafontaine is now out of federal politics but is still an influential member of the Left Party, the successor to former East German communists. - Business Week AP May 06, 2013

Mr Lafontaine's prediction that current eurozone policy was leading to disaster, came as French finance minister Pierre Moscovici proclaimed the end of austerity and a triumph of his country's policy, according to the Daily Telegraph newspaper. - DAILY MAIL

[INFOGRAPHIC] Uninsured and Unhealthy: The Health Insurance Woes of African Americans

Health care is on the front pages once more as the controversial Affordable Care Act develops into one of the critical pivots on which the success of President Obama’s second term is expected to turn. At stake is not only Obama’s place in history; it’s the entire US economy wherein health care is the lynchpin to turn things around.

In his 2013 state-of-the-union address delivered on February 12, Obama issued strong statements on the issue. “Yes, the biggest driver of our long-term debt is the rising cost of health care for an aging population… We won’t grow the middle class simply by shifting the cost of health care or college onto families that are already struggling, or by forcing communities to lay off more teachers, cops, and firefighters.”

One sector that’s already struggling, and has been for some time now, is African Americans.
